Mass Effect 2 Insanity difficulty

MASS EFFECT 2

What do you guys think about Mass Effect 2 Insanity difficulty?

Insanity was a joke for my ME1 playthrough and now suddenly im dying in 1-2 hits from everything on Omega after importing my save to ME2.

Why is there such a drastic difference inbetween how difficult insanity actually is between the two games?

Well, I'm glad Insanity becomes insane. As you say, ME1 is much easier in Legendary. I'm an engineer and I can easily kill things with gun. Garrus, Wrex, and Ash all murder everything they see, and make reasonable use of cover most of the time.

My guess is that ME2 is substantially the way it was before the update. And it was darned hard on Insanity.

On the other hand, combat changed drastically in ME1. Guns changed. Cover changed, mobs were rebalanced, arenas were rebalanced, both squadmate and mob AIs were changed. It makes for a smoother combat experience, but I think they didn't balance the experience well for Insanity.

I second everyrhing kalysti has said.

ME2 was very difficult on insanity to begin with (I still have cold sweats thinking about the Collector ship) and ME1s new rebalance isn't accurate unfortunately.

Don't get me wrong, once you get Mordin things start to turn in your favour with the research upgrades so don't let it deter you. ME2 is a lot of fun on insanity and there will be some hard sections instead of just the game being a slog to get through.

yea im looking forward to it, really the post was less complaining and more surpise at how ridiculously easy me1 was in comparison on insanity since i just jumped from me1 to me2

Oh you're completely right, I've checked more than once to make sure I'm still playing on insanity and haven't accidentally changed the setting when adjusting things.

I've done the same sort of checking. My husband watches me play a lot, and I even had him confirm it. ME1 is usually extremely difficult as an engineer, and it kept surprising me when it wasn't.

Well for example during the recruitement mission for mordin solus, you regularly encounter 10+ vorcha with rocket launchers at the same time that literally just spam you and regen hp, it is an absolut slug fest to get thru that

Vorchas with launchers are trouble. I remember one room with 8 of them. Maybe they increased the numbers a bit. Neural Shock and poison ammo stop their regen, if I remember right.

Jacob's squad incendiary ammo also stops it

Poison ammo? Dont think thats a thing in me2?

You are absolutely right. I was thinking of chemical rounds in ME1.

This section is painful. I did this as a second mission, right after Garrus recruitment, at a low level, and it simply is terrible. No squad ammo obviously due to low level, so having some kind of power to stop those pesky Vorcha from regenerating health is an absolute must. Oh, and trying to play without a sniper rifle also sucks, having to kill those pesky suckers on top of unreachable ledges. Simply terrible.

Because they're practically different games. Shepard in ME1 was always hilariously OP, and they simply made all the weapons more powerful. ME2 didn't get much (if any) tuning in the LE.

You can't really use your favorite companions on insanity, you really have to choose, based on enemy and mission type.

Miranda, Garrus and Kasumi are all top tier squad members on Insanity because of their ability to strip defenses and they're all available right off the bat. Make sure to give them direction to cover, and to turn off power usage, so they're available when you need it.

Also, the Mattock is the best gun for every class. If you're not playing Soldier, then the Locust SMG from Kasumi's Loyalty mission is a solid stand-in until you can unlock Rifle Training.

Oh, the difficulty actually jumps up? Now I have something to look forward to. I feel like I'm playing ME1 on Veteran, I thought it might be because I got too used to the game but it seems it was just made easier.

yea ME1 on insanity is really a joke, you barely notice the difference between the difficulty settings in that game

Use the Arc Projector heavy weapon. I remember doing insanity in the original ME2 and that helped a lot with removing shield and crowd control (stagger)

Super Chain Lightning Zap Stick made ME2 Insanity SO MUCH EASIER...

Very true. I suggest it to everyone doing insanity

It's always been hard.

You have to focus on max damage output.

Very quick firing bursts.

Mistakes are punished hard

Debuffing is mandatory

I had trouble even getting through freedoms progress. Once I got a mattock for my soldier things got easier.

They definitely made ME2 harder. I finished it on insanity my first go round in ME2 when it came out and this is nothing like this beast. Mordins level was a bitch turning on the console and fans since there was no autosave, couldn’t quick save, and ammo was scarce. Took me awhile since it turned into sitting in cover and warping and throwing.

Maybe it’s because I’m an adept now and should have taken something with more weaponry, but remembered adept being the move either in 2 or 3 because of singularity and other powers for combos.

Edit: just looked at my achievements and it was my second play through. Guess that’s what’s doing it while leveling with the enemies as opposed to being buffed off the bat

I just wish they took off the weapons restrictions in ME2 like they did ME1. Adapt on insanity in me2 is extremely difficult
