Remember when Europa Clipper, modules of the Lunar Gateway, and several other probes were supposed to launch on SLS? Pepperidge Farm remembers...

Weird how a rocket that costs $1 -2 billion per launch and years behind schedule tends to push payloads to other vehicles…

Lunar Gateway/LOP-G/DSG/ Whatver was supposed to be 3 or 4 SLS missions alone

Used to be Europa Clipper, EM-2 (Now Artemis 2), and Artemis 3-8

The only thing funnier than Boeing insisting SLS cargo configurations exist is Boeing insisting SLS Block 2 exists.

You don't see the advantage here! SLS is open for more missions! I support Boeing's idea of building the first part of a lunar base in one launch with SLS. Why? Because a NASA base probably should be cost plus when you think about it, and it adds redundancy in case Starship's life support systems fail while on the surface. Plus it could be done quickly, like within the decade and congress would probably be willing to fund it! But it only really works if we do it quickly.

Gee for a moment I thought you were serious. Then I read "cost plus", "done quickly" and "within the decade" and after trying not to choke laughing, I got the joke.

None of that really matters, because a base on the moon ultimately should be cost plus.

lol, bet you cant name a single mission flying on Starship cargo.

Many Starlink missions will soon launch on Starship, what about that?

Edit: Oh yeah, it's David Willis, how unpredictable /s

Starlink is a spaceX internal payload.

As far as non spaceX payloads go, starship has zero cargo missions scheduled

So it has to be a cargo payload to be useful in your eyes? You realize that SLS has literally had payloads taken away from it right?

3
Alvian_11•

By that logic, literally all of the Artemis payloads and the subsequent (hypothetical) sciences missions doesn't count because it's all NASA (and thus their internal) payloads

AlexphysicsOP•

Your point being?

To be fair the same could be said for Starship full stack

Actually, I can name many (Starlink) missions that will launch on Starship.

S'pose so, at least the missions on Starship aren't being moved to other launch vehicles

Starlink will be its first few maybe even first few dozen payloads.

AlexphysicsOP•

Mmmm no

HLS, Starlink. Also SLS is getting mission pulled from it, starship is getting missions added to it.
