Can one really learn another's Love Language if they are polar opposites? Currently dreaming of being with someone with the same LL as me (physical touch), is it as good as it sounds or just a pipe dream?

My current partner doesn't seem to rank high on any LL. They are generally content and confident and ignore anything negative in a slightly pathological way. I am all about physical touch, and to their credit they do try but it really often comes across as "dead" (random hand on me, no stroking or moving) or as a joke (quick peck, fun butt grab) but never as actually intimate. They spoon me for 5min at night then roll over and subconsciously move away if I try to spoon them or cuddle. This is partly due to childhood trauma and upbringing, but some of it is just how they are wired, but it hurts my feelings. Speaking of childhood, growing up in a loveless environment means spontaneously saying I love you is basically impossible, and compliments are just not a thing for them.

I've turned down my own ways of showing love and affection so as not to another them, but recently they said to keep going because maybe they'll get used to it and be able to emulate my ways of showing love. That sounds very "coachy" and like it'll never be something they enjoy but merely a learned behaviour, and I'm not sure I like the thought of that.

We also only really have two interests in common, one of which I am putting a lot of effort into maintaining. They aren't really keen on the things that make me "me", especially my first language (not English). Most of my friends find my bilingualism really fascinating and ask me about it often, and it makes me feel great. My partner says maybe if we were friends they'd be more excited about it but because we are together there is an expectation to learn and that ruins it.

Meanwhile, someone I've been close to for ages seems perfectly matched to me in those regards, particularly the touch. We touch often in non-sexual but affectionate ways, and oh my god I love it. I hadn't realised how much I CRAVED it. The hug while I'm washing up. The hand naturally going towards my hip. The gentle stroking. I know from years ago that they cuddle all night long too. It's amazing. Our interests are much better matched too.

I'm starting to wonder whether I should cut my losses and maybe give person n2 a go as we seem so much more compatible, all the things I need are things they do naturally and vice versa. But I'm sure speaking the same love language isn't all it's cracked up to be, right ? I'd feel wrong not giving current partner the chance to try and learn, as that willingness is clearly a show of love, but how much can one really grow to ENJOY and love touch and compliments and saying I love you? I'm a bit skeptical and don't even know if it is something they should strive for or if they'd be better off with someone with different/less prominent love languages.

I am so lost, I know they love me but my tank feels empty. If they are willing to try, that's great, but how realistic is it to think my tank will ever be filled?
