This is how the new variant is going to spread, government incompetency.
Do stay indoors. you don't need to stay indoors.
Do not travel abroad. You can travel abroad if you want though.
Do not go out for anything other than essential reasons. It's not the law though, do go if you want to.
Do follow lockdown procedures. We're not in a lockdown though.
Do avoid gathering indoors. You can gather indoors though.
Just fuck off you dumb fucking government and make up your mind, do you want to lock us down forever or not.
Hopefully this is when people start to learn the difference between advice and law.
Just how hugging was never 'banned' yet many believed they weren't 'allowed' to hug.
‘There was concern local lockdowns were being imposed "by stealth" after the government's website changed its COVID guidance over the last few days for eight councils without announcing it, saying people should not travel in or out of the areas unless necessary.’
Anyone who works in communications take a lesson from the govt over the last year for a perfect example if how not to do it.
My org has phd virologists on the exec. We're still following the same roadmap they came up with in FEB 2020. 0 u-turns, 0 easing to then reinforce, 0 back and forth.

How exactly was this confusing? Advised to meet indoors and minimise travel because you're in an outbreak hotspot.
As it happens often with this government, the communication around this has been awful.
BUT the spirit of what was said is actually correct: if you are in one of these areas pls take extra care and avoid unnecessary travel. Not a strict rule from a nanny state, but honest advice to its adult citizens.
