i think we should go for him more than eichel.. idk if that’s a popular statement
its probably not popular but its true
I’m anti Eichel. Nothing against his game, but I think our center prospects are just so good... we just have to be patient and let em cook. I’d rather spend the $$ down the road on “the last piece” for a championship team.
Eichel is a bust. I can feel it. Wherever he goes, he is not going to live up to the expectations.
Just FYI everyone, he will be testing free agency in 2022. He still has 1 year left on his contract.
Good bit of information.
Who knows what happens from now until then. We still have an expansion draft yet to happen that will shake up the league and make a big impact on most GM's plans for the short and long-term future.
That's just one of many factors yet to be seen between now and then.
Jackets will most likely trade him per Portzline. As a Jackets and Kings fan I really hope he stays with one of my teams and the Kings seem likelier to use him properly and get him a legit chance at a career remembered outside of Ohio, so I would welcome the trade here. Also Jones should have lower than normal trade value due to expiring contract and a absolutely piss poor 2020-21 season
Not for the amount of money he’s gonna want.
Should test it out, he’s good. But ultimately he’ll probably want too much money on too much term. Maybe he’ll want to live in LA and take a discount for that reason but who knows. And besides, he has another year on his contract so we don’t have to worry too hard yet.
If he was an LHD I’d be all for it. If the Kings where going to make a big run for a CBJ defenseman I’d rather them go hard for Werenski.
Doesn't really matter what hand they are. Kings need quality period.
From what’s coming out around the team, specifically the mayor, the Kings are looking to spend big on an LHD. If you go hard for Jones you aren’t also getting the LHD you desperately need. The Kings do need quality but position definitely plays a role in that.
Oh yeah, I'm sure they will get a LHD but I don't think you can rule out any high quality player like Jones just because of L vs R
Yeah, I hear what you’re saying. Jones is for sure an elite defenseman and would help the team. I’m just saying I don’t want him for the same reason I don’t want Eichel. If the teams gonna spend that amount on a player I’d rather them be a perfect fit for the roster. And Jones isn’t quite the perfect fit.
super overrated by analytics, some team is going to overpay for him. he's already getting up there in age anyway. rather we stick to the current timeline
Disappointed but not surprised that the fanbase so fervently against getting Eichel is all for surrendering major assets/massively overpaying for the older and significantly worse player
Biased as a Winterhawks fan, but yes, I'd love to have him. Will cost though. Great kid.

Would cost Turcotte++
Portzline reported on the athletic he's likely getting traded with an extension by the end of the draft at the latest
Good defensemen are hard to come by in the NHL but I'm not convinced Seth is elite. No doubt a team will probably make him the highest-paid Dman in the league. My issue is the tenure of a potential deal. We know these contracts 99% of the time never turn out well on the back end.
I'd personally like to see if we could get someone like Rasmus Dahlin who I think would cost us less to get than Seth Jones and he's much younger and I think given a change of scenery and the opportunity to learn from a guy like Doughty will only help him reach his elite potential, plus he fits the sort of age range of where this team is at and where it's going with all the young guys coming up.
RHD is a strength of ours, but yes we should. Play him as a 1 RW a la Brent Burns
:)
No Matt Roy is cheaper and sounds better defensively judging by what CBJ fans have been saying tbh
Kings will definitely test the waters, but how much he wants is going to be an issue. No way he takes less than $7 mil and will want at least 6 years at 28yo. If he takes a team friendly deal then I’m all for it; it takes some of the load off Doughty
