Who went to Pint of Origin - Scandinavia in Melb?

Was it worth it? I didn't check it out but ppl I know who went said it was $30-$40 per glass, one size pour only. Surely Beermash taking the piss with those prices or at least offering only 1 size serve at what is a glorified tasting event?

I think I was paying $15-$30 per glass, all the beers were insanely fruited or massive imperial stouts so I get the price.

Any standouts? Can you remember how big the serves were? If it was 200ml or smaller I would've been annoyed.

I think they were 250ml, can't be certain as they use their fancy wine glasses, I'd say 200 to 250.

I had three beers that I recall - checked my bank account for the prices hahaha.

Paranormal Brewing Co - Astroling (triple fruited sour) 4.7% $15

Nerds Brewing - Implements (Imperial Chocolate Truffle Stout, Hazelnut/Coffee edition) 10.5% $18

Nerd Brewing - Extends (Oak Aged Imperial Stout) 10.8% $22

Nice man. Paywave ftw I'm guessing lol. What was that imperial choc truffle stout like?

That and untappd really help recall the nights during good beer week :P

That was the standout, super thick and oily mouth feel - couldn't taste any booze whatsoever. Heaps of coffee and roasty characters and a good hit of sweetness from the choc/hazelnut combo.

They were all really delicious though, hadn't had any Nerd beers before so was a great introduction.

speaking of Beermash, is it just me or are their tap beers always extremely dear (no I don't mean for GBW, I understand that). They had a local pale ale on tap the other day, think it was from Burnley and it was $14 a schooner. It's around $12 a pint at a pub around the corner or at the brewery. What gives? High rent on Smith st?

I've pretty much stopped going there after noticing this. With such quality close by it's hard to cough for inflated prices there.

I would actually like to ask them one day but it's such an awkward conversation to have.

I used to say things, but its usually just some poor casual getting paid nothing, probably having their super stolen, who gets enough shit. I had a go at the Terminus when they moved from Pints to Schooners years back didn't mention it anywhere and kept beer the same price, dodgy and sneaky bastards.

These days I just don't go to those places, if enough people vote with their feet then it may change.

In Collingwood there is so much competition for your dollars, just wander down to Fixation, The Mill, Molly Rose, Range, Bodriggy or which ever brewery has opened this week that I can't keep up with!

I didn't want to say anything but I agree dude they're definitely on the higher cost side. I'm kinda shocked they've been around for as long as they have. Honestly I just think they're doing it cos they can. All that new young/dumb money in the area.

I had one imported stout. It was pretty damn expensive for the glass. But it was high end for sure, not unusual to pay north of 15 for an imperial so no complaints. A lot of the other styles just didn't interest me so can't fully confirm

Did you like the beer? I knew the Scandinavian beers would probably all be pretty huge and probs exy too so that's why I gave that pint of origin a miss.

Infix Imperial Milk Stout - Vanilla Macchiato Edition (2021) Nerdbrewing on Untappd https://untp.beer/qLAV6 yeah I loved it, glad to have gotten it in!

I’m guessing you gave the USA one a miss too.. the bruery beers were definitely on the speedy end.

Nah I actually went to the US one. Those Bruery beers were good but I struggled to differentiate between the 2 I tried.
Carwyn's prices can be eyewatering but at least they give the option of getting 150ml pours. I think that slightly-bigger-than-a-taster size is basically perfect for something like pint of origin.

$30-$40 for a beer is very Scandinavian in my experience (visited Sweden & Denmark a couple of years ago), so it sounds legit.

Truth, I think I recall paying 250 SEK for a beer at a Mikkeller bar more than once.

I went in the middle of a PoO crawl so my worry was the ABV% not the price!

I got the Chocolate Strawberry Pear Vanilla Cake from Brewski and I remember being pleased with it at the time, but I did not write anything about it on untappd. My friend got Paranormal Space Junk which was a fruited gose and far less intense, I had a sip and it was nice. I don't remember what we paid but we were there a while with just the one beer, so really savored them.
