EDIT 2: Thanks to everyone who submitted their questions!

Tuchihi-sensei: When it comes to Full Dive, compared to Cautious Hero, I think the comedy is stronger, so I'd like you to enjoy it and not get too emotionally invested in the characters. Just like Cautious Hero, you can expect a twist, and I have some surprises for you. Please enjoy the show!

Stream Full Dive: This Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG Is Even Shittier than Real Life! only on Funimation.

I guess I’ll be the first to ask - it seems like there’s been a hiatus with Cautious Hero. The last LN volume to be released in Japan was the 7th in December 2019, and since then only Full Dive volumes have been released. Simply put, can we expect any continuation of Seiya and Ristarte’s story?

If that’s too personal of a question, how was it getting your characters added to Isekai Quartet?

Tuchihi-sensei: I was really honored and humbled to have characters I created included alongside such world-renowned series in Isekai Quartet.

What is the process like for you of going from a manga -> anime. How involved are you in the actual animation aspect of things, ex: do you have full control of anything you want/don’t want or is it more of they buy the rights and maybe run somethings by you?

Really appreciate the time!

Tuchihi-sensei: This is something that applies to both Cautious Hero and Full Dive. While the anime adaptation is happening, I usually tell the animation team to create a good balance between serious tone/atmosphere and comedy, since both titles have that duality. That's one thing I always communicate to the anime team while it is being produced.

Do you want full dive to get an English translation?

PainStorm14•

Did you consider giving shorter titles to your anime or is it customary to have extra long names?

6
FUNimationOPOfficial Funimation Staff :FunimationMod:•

Tuchihi-sensei: The reason I chose these long names is because it catches people's attention. When publishing novels online, it's much easier to catch a potential readers attention with long titles, so that's where they come from.

Lately, though, I'm starting to think these long titles are getting old. I'd like to see some changes there in the future.

I see, thanks for replying, best of luck!

Big fan of cautious hero. What motivated the idea of a novel about an intentionally bad MMORPG?

Also who is best girl?

4
FUNimationOPOfficial Funimation Staff :FunimationMod:•

Tuchihi-sensei: As you know, there are many anime that feature Full Dive-style immersion. In the world of Full Dive, this whole genre of MMORPG and their popularity has dwindled. The era of full dive MMORPG is old news, and nobody's playing these anymore. That's the whole idea of this kusoge genre. This is something I haven't seen authors doing, so it was a new ground I felt I could reach.

Additionally, we have YouTube and streaming services nowadays, so we can watch others playing kusoge and it's entertaining to watch. It may not be pleasant for the player, but looking in from the outside is very enjoyable. It's another reason I chose this kusoge style.

As for best girl, I would say Alicia, for sure. Although she's an NPC in the story, she's very human-like, which I really enjoy.

No matter what anyone says, Alicia is best super kawaii girl in my book!

Is your favorite time Martin time ?

FUNimationOPOfficial Funimation Staff :FunimationMod:•

Tuchihi-sensei: I love the horror genre a lot. I watch horror movies and play horror games, and I do believe there is a very fine line between horror and comedy. Some might think something is terrifying while others find it funny.

That said, if Martin Time happened to me, I would definitely be terrified. I would not be happy for sure.

I only have 2 Questions

  1. So about the 2 other members that joined the Town Guard alongside Hiro in Episode 8, did you name them after real-world countries?

  2. How did this Light Novel series get an anime so quickly? This particular topic was spoken about quite a bit in the anime communities of Twitter, reddit, and probably elsewhere when the anime was first announced since Vol 2 of the Light Novel hadn't even released yet at the time of announcement. It was jokingly said that you had to have pulled in favors to get an anime adaption so quickly.

How does it feel to write stories which are watched, read and enjoyed by audiences worldwide? Does it motivate you to want to tell more stories?

3
isobethehen•

If you were playing Kiwame Quest, do you think you'd be as bad as Hiro?

3
FUNimationOPOfficial Funimation Staff :FunimationMod:•

Tuchihi-sensei: I'm the author of Cautious Hero, so if I were to play Kiwame Quest, I would be a cautious hero there as well. I'd take every step carefully to make sure I don't make any mistakes. Based on my personality, I think I'd do better than Hiro did at the start.

I do want to note that in the anime, we mention "shitty game" a lot, but if you look into it and take the right steps, it isn't actually too shitty. So I have full confidence I would fare better than Hiro.

Hey Tuchihi-sensei, Full Dive has been one of the anime I've most looked forward to watching every week this season, so thank you for making a story so unique and well-paced.

  1. Is there any news on an English language license of the Full Dive light novel?

  2. I feel like there's a lot of heart in Full Dive. Did you draw any inspiration for it from your own childhood?

  3. The anime has a lot of great voice acting, where some characters have gotten to show a lot of range already. Do you have a favorite scene where you think the voice acting really perfected how you imagined it, or where they elevated it beyond how you'd envisioned it?

3
FUNimationOPOfficial Funimation Staff :FunimationMod:•

Tuchihi-sensei: I will say that I haven't exactly been nearly stabbed to death by a best friend, but the story does take loose references and inspiration from my own experiences.

From the beginning with Alicia's introduction, you know how Hiro is trying to run away from his problems in that scene? The lesson is that if he hadn't run away from his problems, maybe things wouldn't have turned out that way. These lessons, of course not specifically, are inspired by my personal life experiences.

Regarding the voice acting, one of the main features in Cautious Hero is Rista's reactions to Seiya's ditziness. Aki Toyosaki, the voice actor for Rista, really exceeded my expectations and was so funny, more so than I even thought for the novel.

I can say the same thing about Alicia, who's my favorite character. When we held auditions for Alicia, I really wanted to hear the murderous crazy intent, and Ai Fairouz really exceeded my expectations and had incredible delivery. It's really is a testament to how powerful voice acting and voice actors are in creating a work of art.

Cautious Hero is definitely one of the great unique stories out there, so I was wondering, what was your approach to the isekai formula? Did you take any inspiration from other creations, or did you create the story using only the basis of being sent to another world, then develop it using your own ideas?

3
SuperDuperFleek•

What moments in Cautious Hero were you looking forward to seeing animated the most? An who's your favorite character?

3
FUNimationOPOfficial Funimation Staff :FunimationMod:•

Tuchihi-sensei: The scenes I looked forward to the most when Cautious Hero was being adapted were definitely the action scenes. I really believed those scenes would pop in the anime.

My favorite character is Ariadoa.

4
BarneyDDinosaur•

Do you watch your anime adaptations weekly? If so have you ever found yourself wanting more even though you wrote the story?

3
FUNimationOPOfficial Funimation Staff :FunimationMod:•

Tuchihi-sensei: Yes, I watch every week! In fact, I look forward to it each week and get excited to see them.

I do realize that when writing a light novel, it's usually me alone writing. But with an anime adaptation, a huge team is working, so the process is different. Naturally, the anime adaptation will differ from my light novel. Instead of honing in on the differences, I try to enjoy them.

Just here to say I want Season 2 of Cautious Hero, the first season was too good & too fast...

3
DanReaver•

Exactly this! When is season 2 of Cautious Hero coming out?

2
SweetCoconut•

I really loved Cautious Hero and got the opportunity to buy the light novels last year! Its a fun story and I really liked the dynamics between Seiya and Ristarte.

As for my question, I'm really curious, do you have a specific plan on how the story will end? I would love to read more of Cautious Hero as well as Full Dive.

What inspired the change in Cautious Hero to go from a comedy to suddenly becoming very serious and dramatic towards the end of the second novel? Was that something you had planned from the beginning?

2
FUNimationOPOfficial Funimation Staff :FunimationMod:•

Tuchihi-sensei: I would like to clarify, in the novel, there are parts of the story told by two different perspectives, Rista and Seiya. I wrote Rista's parts to be funny, but the parts from Seiya's perspective are more serious. That's the distinction I created from the start. It isn't that the direction changed, there are just different tones because of their perspectives. But it is all planned out.

What was your reaction when your work received it’s first anime adaptation? What emotions? What went through your head at the time?

Thank you Tuchihi-San!

2
FUNimationOPOfficial Funimation Staff :FunimationMod:•

Tuchihi-sensei: My first published work was Cautious Hero, so I'll mainly discuss that.

Originally, I was sharing my light novels on a free upload site called Kakuyomu, where you can share your original works. I had a good following, and I realized I could just share online and make people happy even without being published. Even before my first deal, I already felt fulfilled with my novelist career.

But when the publishing deal came up, I was very grateful for the opportunity, and realized if I was published, I could reach even more people. It really comes down to how many people I could reach, and that is what makes me happy.

The publishing took it farther than originally, but I was still very happy before.

How is it working as an isekai creator? Is it easy to create the new world rules and contrast them to our world?

What is the hardest and the easiest part of your job?

2
FUNimationOPOfficial Funimation Staff :FunimationMod:•

Tuchihi-sensei: The basic approach I take is looking at things that already exist like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, and using those as a sort of general foundation that I add my own coloring and flavoring to. For example, comedy is a flavoring. For Cautious Hero and Full Dive, comedy is an ingredient I put in along with the duality between comedy and seriousness.
