Is it a single tab, or firefox overall? Task Manager by default shows the programs total usage, which would include firefox itself and all open tabs, it won't show per tab unless you expand the entry in task manager and look at each individual instance.

it shows 7 instances, however only one tab is open... what does that mean?

its a security feature, it runs in the background thats why tehre are 7 also i use firefox while if you use like 1-2 tabs its more memory heavy but you can open 30-35 tabs and it will only use 1.14 gb

edit: dont ask me how i know

The whole point of RAM is to be used. Any app that has some data to get cached in RAM should do so, else you're going to wait few seconds just scrolling a webpage or switching a tab. All browser RAM related jokes are coming from uneducated people, because whenever some foreground app requires more RAM than there's available at the moment - all background apps will start caching to the drive instead. Don't think about it, just use any browser you like.
