NBC is putting the Federer match in the US on their paid streaming service, Peacock

Discussion

I guess this is fair play in a free market, but I hope Peacock is a monumental failure that loses NBC a pile of cash.

I signed up for a second free trial, which they gave me. There's nothing they put on there that you need more than a week to watch, and they're giving "returning customers" another free trial. We can defeat the Peacock project as long as we remember to cancel.

I hear you, but i wont even play that game.

Thanks for this. Just signed up, and created a reminder on the calendar to cancel it on Friday. Ridiculous that it's not streaming somewhere FREE.

Eat their bandwidth and bury the peacock!

French Open tv coverage is so bad every year! One of four biggest tournaments of the year and biggest clay event in the world, and it's a huge pain to watch.

Not how you grow the sport. This event should be easily watchable by serious and casual fans alike.

SnatchingDefeatOPNovax 💉 Djokovic•

If there was an option to turn the commentary off but keep the sound from the court on, it wouldn't be so bad.

14
jeffwingersballs•

They did night matches this year for TV purposes so it's an extra special level of fucked up in my opinion.

DavidScottM•

From the network that brought us years of Grand Slam Semifinals on tape and Mary Carillo.

Fuck NBC

33
arika_ito•

Like ESPN isn't great but at least they have all the matches recorded and you can actually choose which match you want to watch. Fuck NBC

5
SummerClaire•

FY NBC---Although I've always loved Mary Carillo. She has a great sense of humor.

We_want_peekend•

This. Fuck those guys. I paid $200 for tennis channel to get all the tennis, and instead I can’t watch Federer play at RG. Not getting peacock ever, not even free trial. Disgusting.

They are showing the women's US Open golf tournament. There is a fairly good chance that their contract requires them to show it on the main NBC channel.

Before the tennis was rescheduled by a week, today was supposed to be the women's final. And that would normally be finished long before they were scheduled to switch to the golf.

15
SnatchingDefeatOPNovax 💉 Djokovic•

They have other networks that are not paid streaming.

12
hodkan•

It's only a 3rd round match. They may not be interested in altering the schedule on their other channels for a 3rd round match.

4
DavidScottM•

Yes they need to show the undercard for the Belmont Stakes on NBCSN of course.

What's your explanation for them preventing the Tennis Channel from airing it?

10
hodkan•

Yes they need to show the undercard for the Belmont Stakes on NBCSN of course.

Yes, that's quite possibly correct. As part of their contract to show the main race on NBC later today they may be required to show the earlier races on NBCSN.

Did people not realize that when the tennis was delayed by a week it may cause issues for some broadcasters?

What's your explanation for them preventing the Tennis Channel from airing it?

Did the Tennis Channel pay NBC for the rights to show this match?

SnatchingDefeatOPNovax 💉 Djokovic•

Alright NBC rep I see you.

5
jeffwingersballs•

It's Federer in what might have been his last Roland Garros match. Put the damn thing on NBCSN otherwise why should NBC get all these channels?

2
MorganWick•

Last week they had the Senior PGA Championship and Indianapolis 500, it's not like things would have been much better.

Max_Seven_Four•

Pretty soon the cable bill will be $500 USD when you need to separately signup for all these streaming services!

10
shitstoryteller•

YouTube tv went up from $35 to $65. Back then they had the tennis channel, and it was the only reason why I kept it. Now the tennis channel is gone…

And I’m still stuck with family asking me to keep it because they love it. There’s literally nothing on TV. It’s all garbage. There’s a billion services now, and they’re all rising in price…

Cable might be cheaper.

3
Max_Seven_Four•

Well the media companies figured they can milk consumers by creating few shows and charging $50+ something. If I want to subscribe to Tennis channel directly with them it is $70 something, but with cable it might be just another $15. It will be interesting to see if cable will make a comeback once people figure how expensive streaming services are.

shitstoryteller•

To watch the French open this year we need NBC, The tennis channel and peacock? I signed up for peacock yesterday, I have nbc via YouTube tv, and I don’t think either had the Serena match today?

At my most delusional: I want streaming services and cable companies to die off. Honestly, TV is a cancer. Sitting kills people. Watching TV makes us all sicker and dumber. News channels on all day long are a cancer on society - a sneeze in the morning turns into a Hurricane by the evening… I’m canceling as many services as I possibly can this year.

Update for federer match. Set vpn to switzerland and connect to SRF Sport!

Flashing back to late 90s when ESPN wouldn't show the 1st week of the Australian Open and would come on the air by the 4th round 🤣🤣🤣

Well. This is the pain I had to go thru all year long as a premier league supporter. Peacock is shit

Thank you for posting! I could not find the match.

Tennis channel is shit

4
BritShortHair•

So how are people in france watching this match, because Francetv is not showing it. Im very worried that the organizers of Wimby are going to pull the same shit. It would appear the roland garros sold the rights to the Simonne Mathieu court because francetv hasent shown a match from there all week

4
FuzzyStorm•

Night matches in France are all on Amazon Prime, it's absolute bullshit.

Avec une baguette et un petit peu de fromage.

I'm just kidding. I love y'all French folks and I hope you're able to watch it.

Luckily for me, it came free with xfinity.

3
friendofthedoctor•

I only have internet service from xfinity and had to sign up for the one week free trial (which I will cancel on Fri). So perhaps it only comes with xfinity if you have a cable subscription.

Glad I found sports bay. :) The commentary gets worse every year. One thing I noticed watching some of the side court early matches on sports bay was that you could actually hear all sorts of play 'noise' that you can't really hear in the big coverage. It was really a different (and refreshing) experience.

2
SnatchingDefeatOPNovax 💉 Djokovic•

I wish I could find me a sports bae too.

6
Realsan•

Hilarious that if you paid for the 7 day free trial today it would expire next Saturday, day before the final. I really wonder if that will be on their main channel or peacock.

2
SnatchingDefeatOPNovax 💉 Djokovic•

Of course the singles final isn't going to be on peacock. They've already released the schedule.

https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2021/06/04/french-open-tv-live-stream-schedule-roland-garros/

You only find my timing "hilarious" because you're not using any common sense.

Realsan•

You only find my timing "hilarious" because you're not using any common sense.

Your timing? What? Why are you taking personal offense to this?

1
Sitting_Elk•

It's dirt cheap to be fair.

1
friendofthedoctor•

It is $10/month for the "mostly no ads" option. Which might seem cheap if one did not need to subscribe to Tennis Channel Plus and Fubo.TV (for NBC and cable Tennis Channel) as well in order to watch all possible French Open matches. Luckily this year at least I am using the free 7 day free trial (and hopefully will remember to cancel in time). Even more annoying is the need to hop around among various streaming apps as the coverage moves from Tennis Channel Plus to NBC to Peacock within a single day.

2
HittingandRunning•

I'd also like to add that the NBC 2 hour segment to show Gauff-Brady was very poorly done. They couldn't help that Brady had to retire but from start to finish it could have been handled much better. And why schedule just 2 hours ( I realize there was golf afterward) when a single women's match might take longer than that? It seemed that the segment was mainly there to push their Peacock service.

2
ETeezey1286•

You guys have to pay for it?

1
SnatchingDefeatOPNovax 💉 Djokovic•

Basically we have to buy an extra channel to watch it.

1
ETeezey1286•

Oh I guess sports doesn’t come with the free subscription. I think I get premium free because NBC is owned by Comcast and that’s my provider.

3
SnatchingDefeatOPNovax 💉 Djokovic•

I'm really happy for you.

2
SummerClaire•

Booooo, Peacock.
