Should I become a comedian? (seeking real comedians if possible)
Ok. I know the answer is pretty much, "you don't know if you haven't tried".
I think a lot of times when people think they are funny, they say, "oh, well i can make my friends laugh". And I can, quite easily. I also know I make people I meet laugh easily as well as coworkers. It's fun for me.
I have a knack for taking a lot of little things and making them into big things. this works for me as well as against me in life.
I am my hardest critic. I know I'm funny... but I watch some of my idols and see how they craft a joke and it's truly amazing. I know some things that I do that are funny, but to know A) what is funny (about the material and what you did to make it funny) and B) saying it in a funny well crafted way is hard as shit. I'm very good bouncing off people, but scripted stuff for me is very difficult. I really need to feel inspired to say the same thing more than once.
I've had friends and people who only kinda know me compare me to larry david, dave chapelle, and seinfeld. all of whom are my fucking idols.
When actually thinking about jokes. I come up with something, or say something. And the first time i say it, it's funny. Then as i try to make it work, it just falls apart. It's like repeating a word 20 times and it loses all meaning.
I've had plenty of friends from different groups telling me that I should try it, without even me prompting them.
