A PSA about Vayne's power.
I have seen a lot of confusion about Vayne's power. It is not her W. Here is a common arguement i see, "Her W is true damage scaling with health. The way you combat true damage is that you build health but now with scaling you can't counter!" Let me break this down barney style for you.
It takes 3 hits for her W to proc. Let us assume it is end game. If you are squishy (~2000 health) her W proc will hit you for a whole 220 damage. If you are squishy this is roughly half a normal hit from an endgame vayne (No ult, no crit, no tumble.) If you are a tank with high hp (~3500) then it will hit you for roughly 340. So the difference between tank and squishy is about 120 damage from scaling. In case you don't understand, this is roughly 8-12% of Vayne's damage (depending on your armor.)
So, where does Vayne's power come from? It is her character design. Vayne is the ultimate goal of the endgame AD carry. She right clicks, and she right clicks hard. This is ALL she does. (well, other than have the survive-ability to right click harder.) She has no wave clear. She has no AoE. She has no team buff. Therefore, all of her power is concentrated into her right click.
What makes Vayne truly powerful is her tumble. 60% boosted attack. You combine this with IE, ultimate, and a crit? It is not unknown to crit for 1k with this chain.
So, please, stop with the arguement i see every damn day here on reddit. "Oh no, the false damage, no counter.." Then someone comes along and says "Get randuins and frozen! that counter false damage!" Does this counter her? YES. Does it do it because her W procs half a second slower? NO. It is because it slows her attacks. If you're focusing on countering 12% of a champions damage (Frozen and randuins both have armor) then you're having the wrong argument. To be honest, they could completely remove her W and give her ashe's hawkshot and you would probably not doublelift, chaox, or other high skill players drop her. Is it 12% of her damage? Yes. It's important. But you should just accept it and move on to the rest of her damage.
Tl;Dr: Vayne's W is ONLY 8-12% of the damage she does. Her power comes from the fact all of the power of her character is focused into right clicks (steroids) and prolonging how long she can right click (Condemn knock back, tumble displacement, Ult+tumble invisibility).
Whether she is over powered is not for me to pass judgement on, but i wanted to clear up the miss conception as to why vayne is classified as a "hypercarry".
Edit: [Taken from one of my comments down bellow] I suppose that (Saying her W is negligible in regards to Q dps) was a lapse in my own brain mechanics. I failed to mention that her tumble is powerful not only because of the damage it does but because it gives her so much survive-ability (even more so when coupled with her ult.) I do apologize for it, but the other part of it is that if you are simply going all in on a tank, yes, W is her more powerful skill. But in a chaotic team fight where you are constantly moving in and out, switching targets when available (if a kass dives in you will drop a 2 stack of silver bolts on a gangplank and start hitting the cass, making your W do 0 damage and drastically increasing the damage of tumble in comparison.) On spreadsheets and in theory crafting, her W looks amazing. But if you are chasing, running, or bobbing in and out of a fight so you don't get focused tumble's usefulness, both in damage and utility exponentially increases, while W's usefulness only applies if you are allowed to free hit.
This all revolves around how much of a team fight you're actually auto attacking the same person for extended periods of time. In a team fight where the enemy renekton is making his way towards you, tumble becomes your escape while your W carries the damage. In a fight where it is 3v3 and everyone in the fight is a squishy, chances are that W will be dramatically reduced in usefulness.
To summarize, W is very situational while her tumble is her staple in all situations. What if you change targets before the last bolt goes off? What if they die before you get a 3 proc? What if you're running from a fight and have to change focus to condemn? Then W is next to worthless. What if it's a bruiser coming straight for you and you have a good 3 seconds to hit them before they make their way to you? W becomes incredibly useful. W is powerful, but if i know one thing about riot it is that they couldn't nerf it enough to really impact her without almost removing it or something similar. Like i said, against someone with 3500 health it is worth about 90 true damage a hit. Even if they took it from 8% to, say, 4%, it would still be worth 47 a hit. Against someone with 3500 health, this is worth roughly a ruby crystal of health over the course of 10 hits. This is W's best case scenario and it only removes that much usefulness with such a big nerf.
It would be a shame to see happen to vayne what happened to tyrndemor. They nerf her, but the wrong thing, and there is still an ungodly amount of QQ. Even if they took half of W's ability away she'd still be insanely deadly and there would be little affect to what she can do as a hyper carry.
