Need help with G6/9 Chord

The one that goes like this: 355455. Thumb on the base, middle on A and D, index on G and ring on b and e. I find it easy to fret with out the thumb but once that comes in to play, my middle finger ends up blocking the G string. Looking for ways to get a nice clean sound.
