What were the top 10 concerts you have been to in your life?
1- Daft Punk @ The Greek Theater in Berkeley 2007
Still the greatest overall live experience I have ever been a part of. Literally felt like those blue alien ravers at the beginning of Interstellar 5555.
2- Radiohead @ The Greek Theater in Berkeley 2006
I've seen Radiohead at least 3 or 4 times and they are consistently the best live show you could ever hope for. This was the most intimate environment I ever saw them play at and they split their set over two days, so I saw various things they normally don't play too often.
3- Amon Tobin ISAM @ Warfield 2011
Sheer visual audio genius. Recent show, but it was so unbelievably glorious to witness, it's up there.
4- Godspeed! You Black Emperor @ Warfield 2011
Been waiting over a decade for these bastards to hit the west coast, and they did not disappoint with their 2+ hour set. They come back around again for like 6 shows here, so others can get a chance to see them if they missed the first time.
5- Blackalicious, Saul Williams, Ozomatli & Karl Denson in Chico, CA 2002
This was just a sheer party, and a glorious one. And it was in a fairly tiny venue, too. These guys seemed to will it to be bigger with their sound. Ozomatli and Blackalicious shined especially brightly. And Blackalicious was touring for Blazing Arrow.
6- Kraftwerk @ Coachella 2004
The bass from Man Machine made me nearly hit the brown note, and nearly made me just forget the Pixies set I just witnessed. I made the tough decision to leave the Radiohead set early so I could get up close to ze Germanz, and by the end of the show I was probably 2-3 back right down the middle. Amazing end to an amazing day at Coachella, probably the single best day I had yet to experience in Indio up to that point.
7- Sigur Ros @ The Fillmore SF 2001
I had just seen them a week prior at Coachella, but this was a full blown masterpiece of a set: intimate, delicate, and heavily reverberated. They had their string quartet and were touring for Agaetis Byrjun.
8- Flaming Lips @ Bill Graham Civic Auditorium 2006
If any band knows how to throw a party for 20,000 people, it's this one.
9- Vitalic @ 103 Harriet 2010
I almost want to say just his performance of La Rock 01 was worth it alone to make this list for me. But his style and his improv live really made for such a glorious night of dancing and revelry. Had wanted to see him for a good five years.
10- Autechre @ Coachella 1999
The reason I bought a ticket to that newfangled Coachella thing back when it was in October (only the first year). They didn't disappoint, playing a 90 minute set mixing live improv and DJing their material to create a hell of a show that nearly blew out the speakers.
