Thank you Reddit for the best Christmas ever.

Dear Reddit,

I've never experienced such online community formed solely by a love for literature, for Christmas, and for helping each other out. This Christmas I wanted nothing more than to get my boyfriend a stellar gift. This task was accomplished because of you, Redditors.

When my boyfriend told me how he had always wanted a first edition Stephen King novel (his favourite author) I immediately hit up some subreddits to try to surprise him. After wading through advice I came across a kind man who was affiliated with a King collectors website. He helped me to search through the fakes to find a solid first edition copy of On Writing, King's memoir.

The book was sent to me and at an amazing price, I thought my gift was complete. A few short days later, a very kind Redditor saw my earlier post about looking for a best-ever Christmas present and offered to take the book to get signed by King at one of his recent signings. Though I was skeptical at first, I knew the man was genuine when he explained that he frequented r/randomactsofpizza, and that was the only payment he would accept.

After weeks of waiting, much money spent on postage miles from Ohio to Ontario to Oregon to Florida and back to Ontario, the beauty of a book made it back to my hands and finally to my boyfriend's house on Christmas morning.

The smile on his face was worth the stress and the uniqueness of the story behind it far outweighed the price of the gift.
