an open letter to Valve regarding their terrible gift giving user experience

I wanted to buy some gifts for about 10 friends on my friends list, and Steam really makes it as hard as humanly possible to do it.

Here are the problems that I think Valve should try to solve.

The first problem is that there doesn't seem to be any way to see the real name of friends on my list, even if I am connected to them through Facebook, etc. So, when I'm browsing through my list of 100 friends, it makes it real hard to find the 10 or so I want to buy gifts for.

The second problem is that you cannot buy + send the game right through the list of gifts. You have to click the store link of the gift, buy it as a gift, then again find the name of the person to send it to. It's very frustrating when you do this 10 times. There should be a "purchase as gift for this friend" button on the wishlist that automatically sends the gift after you buy it.

The 3rd problem is that gifts stay in your gift inventory after you send them (until they are claimed) and I don't see any way of knowing if I had already sent that gift or not, other than checking my email. So, I have 10 gifts in my inventory and I don't know which of them I already sent.

Anyways, that's it. I think with gaming becoming more and more mainstream, popular, and social, and with Steam being the juggernaut of online game purchasing, they really should make it as easy as possible to buy gifts for your friends.

Thoughts?
