Looking for some advice!

I'm not sure particularly what a good style is for my head. I really like some of the old conservative styles we see in Mad Men but feel as if my hair is too thick and too wavy to be held straight. I've tried Groom and Clean, however for the past month my hair has simply been too long and curls up as soon as I put it in.
