New Years Eve in Hamilton

Hey everyone! My birthday is January 1st, so I thought that it might be fun for my friends and I to do a dual New Years/Birthday celebration. One of them lives in downtown Hamilton, so we are thinking of using that as our base. This is my first time spending New Years in Hamilton - so I was wondering what happens/if there is anything interesting going on. Specifically, I am hoping for places that don't ask for a huge cover price. Does every place in Hess ask for cover on New Years eve? Do they ask for cover on Augusta street?
