Advice on potty training with a bell need.

All, we have a new golden puppy and we are working on potty training her. With our previous golden we trained her to ring a bell to let us know she needs to go...which worked really well and allowed her to notify us from across the house.

The problem is that with that the previous golden wasn't particularly interested in the bell, this golden loves playing with it. We've tried taking her out every time she rings it...but that doesn't disuade her since we also give her treats when she pees (or pretends to, since I'm fine with her trying even if she doesn't have to). She simply hasn't lost interest in it, so I've finally sprayed it with bitter apple to disuade her from playing with it, and with the intent of teaching her to ring it with her paw. The problem is that I'm concerned that this will disuade her from using it at all.

At this point, I am not sure of another way of teaching her to use the bell, so while I think my solution may work I would like to hear other people's ideas on how we may go about it.
