Beginner question about Chinas

I've noticed quite a few people mount their Chinas upside down, so that it looks like a funnel. I tried it with my cymbal and it sounded pretty much the same except it felt a bit different (a much more powerful shock was travelling up my arm each time I hit it).

Other than personal comfort is there any other reason to flip it?
