I am a co-op student and I am going to live in Mississauga for the next 4 months. Any tips?

I will be living near Erin Mills Town Centre and I will be taking the bus every morning to go to work. Do you guys have any tips for me such as taking the buses? I know Mississauga is one of the safest cities in Ontario but are these areas safe when I am walking alone? Any other things I should know about Mississauga? :)
