Wife and I thinking about getting an English Bulldog - Reading Material?

We know that they've got health problems and they are expensive, but we like them. Anyone with advice for reading material / considerations we should take into account before moving forward? I want to make a well researched decision.

Quick edit with just some additional background: I'm from a family of dog owners (always a one dog family, typically a labrador). Wife comes from a cat family, but genuinely seems interested in a dog these days. She actually expressed interest in the English Bulldog first (we've known a few of them), and when I got really excited afterwards I realized how much I miss having my own best friend (it has been about 6 years since I've lived with a dog).
