What's more important; the money you make or loving what you do?

Reddit, you've never led me astray before. I'm at a crossroads in my life. Choosing what career path seems very hopeless to me right now. My ideal would be to work at a job that might not pay as much as others and live frugally rather than pick a career with money in mind. My father stresses those golden jobs of doctor and engineer while my interest drifts toward becoming a Multi-Media Artist.

I just need some wisdom from the different types of people of Reddit.

My questions to you are:

  • What is more important to you, money or loving your work?

  • Do you think it's possible to live comfortably on a relatively small paycheck? Assuming that you would be smart with your money.

  • If you followed your dream job, are you happy you did?

  • If you entered a field solely for money, was it worth it?

Any sort of advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
