Ladies, has anybody been in a relationship where their SO cheated on them, they gave them another chance, and you actually did live happily ever after?
TL:DR - My boyfriend didn't physically cheat on me, but he posted an ad on Criagslist and signed up with a few adult dating websites.
We've been together 2+ years. Not living together or anything, but we've both agreed that we'd like to get married as soon as he has a steady/permanent job (he has two jobs right now, but he's waiting for his "career" job where he feels he will be Long-term financially stable.)
For the most part, we've been great. No knock-down fights, no yelling at one another or anything. I've been happy with the relationship, and I feel like he is too.
Starting in September, he started back up some classes. On top of taking 12 hours, he also works a 40-hour job, with his time/weekends off spent at an air force base, working. I know it's been stressful on him, because between all those, he almost never gets a day off.
He has always professed his affection for me. There was a psycho ex that tried to get with him when we first dated, but he went above and beyond telling her off/blocking her, and it really impressed me. She never appeared again. We always hang out when we have time.
Now, I never suspected him to look at other women, because his mom tore up his family, and every other relationship he's even been in he was cheated on, and it's an issue he is very vocal against. The other day, however, I glanced over when he was checking his email, and noticed a CraigsList response. I didn't say anything, but later I checked his email, and found that what looked like a weekend in September, and another around Thanksgiving, he had posted a Craigslist personal ad, and in November, signed up for some adult dating sites, and had a few text message exchanges with a girl that he had responded to a CraigsList ad.
I approached him about it immadiately. He fessed up about the text messages and the CraigsList and the accounts. He said he'd felt really disconnected in our relationship, and was stressed and frustrated (I was out of town when he did it in September... not sure about the Thanksgiving one). He never actually met up or did anything cyber-sexual with the girls... a lot of "are you available to chat?" "would you like to meet up this weekend?" But I did notice that the replies ended with the girl saying "I guess not? Okay then" where it looks like he just ignored all the calls. He said after they started talking about meeting up, he felt awful for what he'd done, and didn't want to go any farther.
This is the only time this has ever happened. To date, his emails/texts have shown that he hasn't done any more on CraigsList, and his dating accounts haven't had any more activity since those two dates.
I discovered all this...4 days before he left for Qatar for 2 months (so last Thursday). He left yesterday, and while we've spent a TON of time talking about it with one another, and even with his dad (who's 1st wife cheated on him, and I think the absolute world of him) who helped me through the discovery, and sat down and had a talk with his son. He flew out and we were on good terms, and I really want to be optimistic that we'll work it out.
Problem is, I've seen girls and their "He cheated on me... what should I do?" Posts. Every single one the relationship needs to be called off, and if it isn't, the incident usually happens again. With him being gone for 2 months, I feel so unsure of myself. We've made a lot of good memories together, and it's hard to decide to break it off, especially now that he's overseas.
This isn't necessarily an advice post, because I'm sure 99% of the posts will say "Break up with him." My questions is: are there any Reddit Ladies out there (or men if you're reading this) that have given the relationship a second chance, and it actually did work out? Could he truly be sorry, and never do it again?
