[TOMT] Parking brake on a space ship?

Consider this a very low-priority TOMT, but...

I recently saw a movie or TV show with a scene where someone was attempting to launch some kind of (I believe) space craft. Someone else (an authority figure maybe?) is getting impatient and asks the would-be pilot if he/she checked the parking brake.

What was that?

EDIT: It was Star Trek. My brain is turning into swiss cheese.
