Can I breed pet bears?

I'm sure a lot of you have heard of the tame silver foxes experiment. Well, I want to take up mad science as a hobby, and I'm thinking about doing this to bears. I want to ask any biologists present for educated guesses on how this'll play out, and they can maybe warn me if I'm getting in over my head.

Domesticated foxes seem like domesticated dogs, but how would a tame bear act, even look? (More neotony? I am imagining expressive eyes and perhaps larger ears.)

My modus operandi would be to ask for cubs from zoos and whatnot--I know that parents are killed to take the cubs. Conversely, I could raid one of those bile bear farms they have in China, and keep the sweetest and mildest moon bears for my little experiment. When they pass reproductive age, I will release them to reserves and other animal welfare places, so people won't get too mad at me. Good idea?

And if bears are not exciting enough, please suggest other cool things I can tame instead. (I'd also appreciate if you helped out with the start-up fees of my enterprise. ;)) Squid, tigers, elephants, whatever; when I'm done uplifting in a few decades, I know you'll want one. What could go wrong? (Besides PETA.)

Bonus question: I read somewhere that pet birds were never domesticated and are basically still wild. How possible is it to tame birds? Why aren't parrots tame by now? (My first guess would be their long lifespans.)
