Quick (stupid) question

I just had a spot of trouble trying to access Google and Reddit from my laptop. According to Chrome, it was because it was unable to access the DNS. Now everything is working fine. Did I miss some sort of demonstration of what DNS blocking will do to the internet, because other than those two, the other sites I was browsing had no problems at all when I went to a different page on the same site.
