Am I wasting my time (and money)?
I have a bachelors degree in an arts field. I've actually had some use of it with a couple jobs but it's just not paying what I would like. 18 months ago I had a bankruptcy dispersed. So I've been looking for another career. Something that will pay well enough I can take care of my family, work up a savings, and still have free time to pursue my true passion.
Accounting seemed simple enough. It's just tracking money; add here subtract there. However, during my undergrad I took ZERO math classes because they were unnecessary (I took a placement test that qualified me for not taking math classes). Also, I went to a few local colleges to see about getting a second undergrad in accounting and they all told me I was crazy. I should just get a Master's degree and move on from there. So that's what I'm doing.
I'm working on a Master's degree in Accounting, hoping to sit for the CPA exam in a year or two, from Keller Graduate School of Management, part of Devry University. However, after two classes (all of their classes are 8 weeks in length), I feel like I haven't actually learned anything. I have no confidence in what I'm doing and the teachers in each class have been less than helpful when I express my frustrations and lack of understanding. Also, I have evidence that they didn't actually grade assignments and parts of tests, meaning the B grades I received in the classes are meaningless.
I don't want to come out of this in deeper debt with student loans and no chance of getting a job.
