What kind of gloves do you guys recommend for winter?

I usually just wear what I find lying around the house but I just got in after clearing my car of snow and ice and my fingers were so cold it hurt. So my question is simple. What type of gloves do you guys recommend? I'm sure a lot of people will be interested.
