How can I learn to protect myself? Even if it involves lots of reading, I'm in.

I have recently been a victim of having my hotmail accessed and lots of personal emails read and deleted. The culprit was one of the owners of htt://www.sawrpg.com/

Long story short, the guy is a scam artist, and I outed him, he used old passwords from years of being a member of a few of his sites to access my hotmail. From there, he found me home address, found me on facebook, found out families names, and so on. The list goes on. I obtained my hotmail back, but not without receiving lots of threats later on. Some about the safety of my family, some about the safety of myself, and many about being hacked.

I recently joined up as staff on a game, and we are being ddos attacked. I am not the owner, and don't have access to host files, but tha'ts hardly my problem or concern. The owner is another victim of this guys brutality.

My concern is, when this guy decides to come back, and do what he says he is going to do, how can I be ready? I thought about filing a police report, but the guy is in the Netherlands. He claims his online alias is fake, and that he can not be found. He specializes in stealing websites and opening clones to make money off of. Lots of large companies are trying to take him down but cant because of his countries laws.

I am one of a large number of people he has abused over the years. I always thought of myself to be quite computer savvy, and I think its time I learned more than installing software and putting computers together.

Can someone point me out in the right direction to start learning how to protect myself, and how I might be able to push back? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
