Question. When a guy likes a girl but she doesn't like him back, is this a compatibility or a merit issue?

Like if Jason likes Suzie but Suzie likes Ryan, does this mean that Jason and Suzie are just two incompatible humans or does this mean Ryan was a "better" candidate than Jason and Jason basically is not good enough?

This goes for all relationships actually. Is the partner that you have your ideal mate out of all humans in the world? I guess in layman's terms, is there such thing as settling? Because if settling exists, then that means some people are better or worse than others, no?

I mean in reality Jason's friends would probably tell him "Nah man, it's not that you're a loser or that Ryan is better than you, Suzie just isn't your type that's all."
