I need wiring advice re: component quality.

I'm wiring my first build. It is simple, two humbuckers, one on permanent, the other switchable in series. So I'm trying to get the cleanest sound possible out of it.

I figure the best way for me as a beginner to get the best sound out of it is to not use pots and to use quality components. So the questions are:

• Will non guitar-specific mini switches work well?
• What wires sound best?
• What do I use for shielding?
• Does the socket make any difference?
