I thought that rationality and explanation might conquer fear and ignorance.

How many facts do you need to recite? How many debates does one have to win before one's parents finally understand that cannabis is not a death sentence? (For reference: 21 yo college student)

A month ago I convinced my entire right-winged, Christian(Christian-based college), closed-minded English class in a matter of 5 minutes that Cannabis is not what they thought it was. Every question they posed, I answered, tastefully, artistically, factually. At the report's end, I received a standing ovation from my entire right-winged, Christian, closed-minded English class, including my professor. Students found me after class, explaining to me that their minds have been fully changed on the subject, thanks to my presentation and question and answer period.

I can't for the fucking life of me convince my mother through the same argument. She told me about the health risks; I told her that I vaporize and that the medical benefits that come from THC outweigh whatever risks there might be (if any). She told me about the law, I told her about the laws of my state and those of my university (an almost no-risk situation concerning both states). Every question she posed, I answered tastefully, artistically, factually. I spoke to her with the same respect that I would show the President of the United States.

Without an argument to stand on, she called me thick headed.

Lesson? For future reference, Reddittors, never let your fear of something cloud your thoughts of logical explanation.
