A 'Good Christian's response to civil unions in Queensland, Australia.
I found this gem this morning in The Toowoomba Chronicle Letters to the editor.
Full Text:
State and religion should be separate
SO now our government in Brisbane is telling us how to think. We have to accept that homosexual and lesbian relationships are the norm for our society.
It reminds me of the Stalin era where the state ruled even the minds of its citizens and religious observances were banned.
I thought that there was to be a separation of state and religion.
Now we are told to renounce our religious beliefs and accept what the state tells us is right.
Soon we will be told to renounce Christ from Christmas and substitute Santa Clause and Christ will be legislated out of Easter and we will have to honour the Easter Bunny.
It appears to me that any small, minority group which makes enough noise gets changes made in Parliament while the majority are left to wonder what the next law will demand of us.
And how can a party introduce new laws that haven't been presented to the people before their election? Or, like Julia Gillard, promise not to introduce them and then introduce them.
I will remain strong in my adherence to the teachings of the Bible because I count myself among the Christians of this country.
No law will change my thinking and no law will make me accept legislation that is against my religious beliefs.
