Help retrieving pics/documents from an old (broken) laptop...

I have an old Dell Inspiron 1100 that basically holds all my documents/pictures from my teens until 2006. It completely crapped out (wouldn't turn on) and I've since lost the power adapter. It's been sitting in a closet for 6 years, but I'd like to get everything off of it if it's possible. All the pictures of my husband and I when we first met, plus tons of other stuff from before, are on there. Is there any way to pull this stuff off?
