Looking for some advice on a vintage watch I found

So here's the story, r/watches.

During our post-Christmas clean up I chanced upon this vintage Timex in an unused drawer in my parents house. My Dad doesn't like to wear a watch so I assumed it wasn't his, but I asked him about it anyway and he said it was given to him by a childhood friend when he was 11 years old ('66-'67). Despite it being broken for decades, he held onto it for nostalgia's sake and because he liked the simple design. Well anyway, seeing my interest, he was kind enough to offer the watch to me as a Christmas gift if I was willing to take charge of it's repair.

So here's the watch (sorry for the photo quality) - 1 2 3

So first, the few things I can tell you about the watch and it's condition. As I said, it's a Timex, was given to my Dad in '66 or '67 and was probably bought not long before that. I would also guess that it's a budget model since it was bought for a child. Presumably it was made in Great Britain, like myself, since it's printed in small lettering at the bottom of the dial (hard to see in the pictures). It's mechanical and as far as I can tell it's not an automatic, though admittedly my knowledge of watches, vintage or otherwise, is nil.

In terms of functionality, it's not completely dead. I gave it a wind and left it overnight and it had kept time accurately when I came back to it about 9 hours later. I tried again the next night to good results. Unfortunately, it's very temperamental when actually worn and will stop ticking without too much movement. I wore it out for an afternoon and it frequently stopped, but would start up again either of it's own accord, or with a sharp tap. That's all I can really say about it, but I'll try and answer any questions if you have them.

So at this point I have a few questions myself and any help would be greatly appreciated! I'll number questions for clarity:

  1. Can anyone identify the watch, despite the lack of information/picture quality?
  2. Does it sound like a straightforward problem to fix and if so, how much can I expect to pay for repairing a watch like this?
  3. Any suggestions on where I should take this for repair? I've found some local watch repair shops online, but they all seem to deal exclusively with high-end brands/models. Am I going to get laughed out of most repair shops with a presumably budget watch like this?
  4. And lastly, any thoughts on the watch itself? Personally, I really like the design and it would hold a great deal of sentimental value to it if I was able to wear my Dad's childhood watch 45 years later.

I think that's about it. As I said any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: My thanks to everyone who answered, you were very helpful. We suspected that the cost of repair might exceed the actual value of the watch, but given the sentimental value I'm not giving up on it just yet and will make some inquiries with local businesses. Thanks again!
