PS3 freezing problem. Is something wrong with my hard drive?

NOTE: I have a 160 GB Slim that's a year old.

Every time my PS3 freezes or has the power cut to it, I get a message that is something like "The PS3 has to be restored. If it is corrupted, this may take 2-3 hours to complete." Those obviously aren't the exact words, but something similar. A game freeze or one of the joyful web browser freezes will cause it when it restarts. Every time. The power went out in my area a week ago while I was playing and on startup, same message. My friend has a fat 80GB PS3. He wanted to move it to a different TV so he pressed the power button, but before it was completely done shutting down, he switched off the back power button. He got the same message I've been getting, but his was corrupted and he had to format it.

My question is: - Should I be worried about this? It has managed to restore back to normal when this has happened. Does anyone else have this? Did an update perhaps change what the system does when it freezes or is it just me? Because it used to just be "the system did not shut off properly. Report this to Sony?"

TL;DR - When system freezes, system has to restore when I start back up. Have you experienced it? Should I be worried or is this something that came as a part of a firmware update?
