Got a question regarding electric stoves...

So, I acquired a homebrewing kit for xmas and was running a test boil tonight just to see how long it takes to boil 5 gallons on my electric stove (also to check my seals on the pot). Right now its at 40 mins and just around 140 degrees. Any idea on how long it should work on a "normally powered" electric stove? Should I invest in getting a little propane setup (granted I would have to do that on the balcony of my apartment)?

update took roughly 1 hour 30 minutes to get to a rolling boil. At least I can get it to a rolling boil, which is better than I was expecting.
