Having the baby. Now.
UPDATE: Got the epidural, immediately felt much better. Thought it might be fun to try natural, but that just wasn't in the cards. Getting the epidural wasn't bad at all, took about 10 minutes to put in, hurt a bit when he put the needle in, but only for a second. And it was well worth the pain it took away.
So this was around 10pm, I was still only a 2. We thought the dr. was coming back around 11, so stayed up til midnight waiting for him. He was caught up doing something else, but I'm not sure what he would have told us anyways that we didn't already know. So we went to sleep, nurse came in and checked me at around 2am. I was dilated 5-6 yay! She came back around 3:30 and I was at like a 9! Couldn't feel anything, got some sleep, things were going well. At around 4:30 they had me start doing some practice pushing and turned off my epidural, since I couldn't feel anything. By 5 the real pushing was going and the baby was born at 6:12 this morning!
Delivery was actually pretty fun, since there was no pain. They had me push the baby right to the edge, then stop to wait for the doctor. My husband wanted to do as much as the doctor would let him, so he gowned up and got instructions from the doctor on how to pull the baby out and catch him. So I pushed twice, husband grabbed the baby and out he came. He was crying right away! It was amazing! He doesn't have a name quite yet. 8lbs and 19 inches. We're working on the breastfeeding already and so far so good.
I have a small tear, required a couple stitches. Placenta came out right away. Pushing on my uterus is painful, I wish they would stop doing it! So all told, everything went awesome. And the nurse just came in, so I'll finsh the update later.
ORIGINAL POST: I was due on Dec 25. We decided to induce today, with the doctors blessing. Arrived at the hospital this morning and discovered I was still 0% effaced and dilated at a 0. So, nothing at all. They started pitocin at 0900, which wasn't my first choice, but not too many other options. It immediately made my contractions very regular, but not at all painful. At 1:00 the dr came back and we found I was dilated to a 2, still not effaced. He came back again at 6:00 and we had 3 choices. Continue the pitocin at the level it was at and see what happened, if anything. Go home, but they are quite busy tomorrow and likely wouldn't be able to come back til the weekend. Or break my water and up the pitocin. So, even though I want the fewest interventions possible, I chose the most intervention heavy option and had my water broken. Makes perfect sense, right?
So yeah, gush of gross water about 2 hours ago and here I sit. My contractions are 1-3 minutes apart and have suddenly become much more painful. It's hard to talk to people, so I'm going to hand over communication duty to my husband and just try to relax.
If anyone has questions, I'll be glad to answer them and I'll post updates about what's happening, since things are happening pretty slowly.
