Major fork in the road
My girlfriend (23 we will call her Mary) and I (25) are having relationship issues.
We dated for about a year and a half. We broke up at the beginning of this year due to me being unhappy with having a long-distance relationship (she was going to school in California, I was in Texas) and her immaturity to handle a lot of life/financial/social situations.
We broke up, I moved on, 6 months later I get a phone call at 4am. She's in a very dangerous part of town, drunk and lost off her ass and angry at her current boyfriend.
I meet up with her, she begins to brag about the threesome she had and the random guys she's hooked up with. Slipped up and told me she had to take plan b twice. One night stands with guys she can't remember. Etc.
I'm generally worried about her mental health and stability so I offer to be her friend. She cries and thanks me and says that none of those actions are like her (and they honestly aren't) and we go our separate ways...agreeing to be friends.
I get a phone call while out on a date with a new girl (Mary knew I was going out on a date) and she's drunk and crying like crazy, saying that her boyfriend was chasing her and now she's lost in the same party/dangerous area that first got her in trouble.
I end the date early, make the 45min drive to find her. I finally find her surrounded by 2 cops. She's dressed like a complete skank covered in dirt and leaves under a bus stop. The cops tell me to take her home or they're going to arrest her for public intoxication. I get her in my car. I tell her how much of a mess she is and how she needs to get her shit together. She explains how great she is now and how she's bought her own apartment and has 2 successful jobs. I tell her to tell me where her apartment is so I can take her home, she refuses and demands that I take her back to my place. I refuse, I take her to her parents and knock on the door (it's 2am) and tell her parents everything: the threesome, the one night stands, the drinking.
Her mom proceeds to blame Mary's behavior on me. Stating that I dumped her and that caused her to act like this. Whatever. I leave.
Mary calls me a few hours later, her parents kicked her out, she wants me to pick her up again, I decline. I go to sleep.
I get a text a few hours later: "I went back to his (her boyfriend's) apartment, he's the only one that cares, this is your fault."
I'm furious...thinking...this is the guy that beat you, chased you out and almost got you arrested and you went back to him. Idiot.
I ignore her. A few days later I get a phone call begging me to listen. She explains that she lied about the threesome and random hookups and that she was just saying all of that to make me jealous. She also tells me that she never went back to her boyfriends house and that they broke up. Whatever, I believe her, I missed her, dumped the current girl I was happy and dating to give her and I a try.
Fast forward a month of us dating...
After I took her out to a really fancy date to celebrate us getting back together she tells me that I need to know the truth:
She did have the threesome. She did take plan b twice. She did hook up with random guys and doesn't remember their names. She had only 1 drink that night the I found her and thinks her boyfriend drugged her drink. I also find out that she doesn't have a job and never did. She also doesn't have her own place.
I cry. I'm torn apart emotionally. She cries. Begs me not to break us up. I tell her I can handle it and we can move on.
Fast forward a few months. She's moved in. She's a college graduate. Graduated at the beginning of the year, hasn't so much as applied for a job. Doesn't clean the house.
To top it off I can't stop thinking of the emotional and physical mess she was a few months ago. It's haunting me every day. I can't get over it.
I explain this to her, she tells me to get over it each time.
Last night was the final straw. I was reminded of something from her past and became distant at home, went to sleep with her and didn't cuddle with her. She began to fight with me because I won't cuddle. I told her that I was hurt from her past and just needed some space and time to get over it. She continued to nag me to cuddle, the fight escalated and now I'm at the crossroad. She said that if I truly can't get over what she did...she will move out.
So here I am...wondering what to do.
I'm a successful 25 year old Dallas guy. I have 2 cars, 1 paid off house and a great job. I look like I'm 17 so that hurts me dating-wise sometimes but I've had some really great girlfriends, the one I was with before was wonderful but ended it in order to give Mary a chance. I can end this relationship, be single, sad and forever-alone for a while (maybe a long while).
Or...I can figure out a way to deal with this, keep trying, give her a chance to find a job (she promised she would apply places by the end of Jan.) and hope that I can forget about what she did.
I'm not sure what to do. If I could 100% get over what she did a few months ago this would be a lot easier...but I'm having a hard time letting go. It makes me judge her and look down on her and not have respect for her because of it.
Excuse the grammar, I'm upset and typing this as fast as I can since she will be home soon and would like advice ASAP.
TL;DR
Girlfriend and I broke up
Girlfriend was a slut
Convinced me to get back together with her and that slutty things she did were lies meant to make me jealous
I find out said lies are actually true
Slutty things haunt me and cause me to have a lowered amount of respect for girlfriend
have to decide whether to dump her or continue on.
