Guys and girls of reddit, I don't have a freaking clue how to dress nice in the winter. Help me, please?

I moved to the east coast (US) recently since living in a part of the world where there is no such thing as cold weather. I don't know what to buy (gloves?, beanies?, rain coats versus winter coats?) what looks nice, or anything similar to that.

I'm a guy, am I really supposed to get a scarf. Please advise.
