What are some of the best or worst gifts you've seen someone give or receive?
Seasonally I work at a retail store specializing in home furnishings, dishes, etc. Leading up to the holidays we get a lot of people in to buy gifts, some with better results than others.
Best Gift: Last week we had a guy come in and buy a jewelry box that sort of resembled a treasure chest. He was extremely excited to surprise his girlfriend with a very special Christmas gift. He told us that his girlfriend was very into Skyrim (hopefully Reddit will forgive my ignorance, but I know next to nothing about Skyrim) and so he was going to put a sapphire necklace in the chest so it would resemble something that could be found in the game. He was also going to include a parchment detailing the powers of the necklace (I'm assuming it was going to be something cute).
And while none of my coworkers are into video games, we all agreed that was one of the best presents we'd heard of because it was extremely thoughtful, was about something they both enjoyed, and of course included nice jewelry.
Now for the worst: We sell these gift boxes that look like Chinese takeout boxes but covered in pink glitter (pretty tacky). Last year a few days before Christmas, I was ringing up a guy who was purchasing one of those boxes and some very old lipgloss from the clearance section. I reached for a bag and he said, "No, it's fine", pulls a satsuma from his pocket, puts that and the lipgloss in the box, closes it up, and, dead serious says, "That's all for my Christmas shopping".
So Reddit, what are some of the best and worst gifts you've seen?
