How I stopped being forever alone.
I thought I'd share my story on how I stopped being forever alone. About 6 months ago I was a 19 year old girl (I know this isn't really old compared to a lot of you guys) who'd not only never kissed a guy, but the only guy that had ever shown an interest in me was an online friend on the other side of the world. I had accepted the fact that I'd probably be forever alone at least until college, because I expected actual intelligent conversations instead of just pointless chit chat about the weather. I ended up always being surrounded by people I didn't like, except for a few of my friends, but I was always friend zoned and while I would probably break my friend zone for them I had in a way friend zoned them as well.
I decided to grow some metaphorical balls and actually talk to some strangers, I walked up to a guy with a trollface t-shirt. We talked about the internet, video games... and a bunch of other things. You may think it's easy to find a guy in high school to talk to all these things about, but my friends weren't interested in that at all and all the geeky guys in my classes were pretty much only interested in WoW. The trollface t-shirt guy introduced me to a whole bunch of awesome people. Some were geeks, others played in metal. Some were communists, others were anarchists. Half of them were or had been depressed. It's really the most diverse friend group I have ever seen. What we have in common is that we do not really fit into society. Here, it is perfectly acceptable to be awkward and to seduce someone with that awkwardness. There I met the most amazing guy, other than the attraction I had developed for older men due to only crushing on older fictional characters for the past 10 years, he was everything I wanted in a boyfriend.
TL;DR The best way for me to end the cycle of being forever alone was to let go of my old friends, and get new ones.
