DAE analyze episodes of South Park more than novels?

It's weird, but I don't like books very much, and every time I read a book, I don't look past the surface much. However when I watch episodes of South Park, I find myself thinking a lot about what various themes and motifs represent, things I usually don't bother doing when I read books.
