Well someone's a little camera shy.

About a year ago my family and I started experiencing some weird noises/movements throughout the house that we've lived in for almost 20 years.

Slamming doors, flickering lights, whispering from the basement, things like that. Nothing violent. It wasn't happening very often so, although scary, it was nothing to freak out about. It wasn't until the events became closer together and more destructive that we started getting worried.

The first extra strange event happened when we were out to dinner one night a few months ago. We came back to find every cabinet door in the kitchen opened. 28 doors open at the exact same angle. My little brother thought it was a prank (executed by my parents or his friends or something) but to this day I'm sure it was whatever entity has been terrorizing us recently.

That was just the beginning of the last 3 months of hell. Almost every day there's whispering from the basement or gusts of wind when all the windows and doors in any given room are closed. Our animals seem on edge and often stare off into space at something the rest of us can't see.

My brother told me about some other more intense attacks like a vase flying across the kitchen and shattering, a window breaking, dishes sliding off counters. One night the fireplace erupted in flames out of nowhere. Luckily, I've been away at college for most of this but since I've been home I've felt uncomfortable and it's been hard to fall asleep. It seems like there's someone watching me at all times and frankly I have no idea how my family has been living like this. I felt like something needed to be done so I took matters into my own hands. That might not have been the best idea.

Most of the activity is in the kitchen and around where the basement door opens into the main level of the house. It's usually colder in that area than anywhere else in the house and the door opens/closes randomly. Things in the kitchen move a lot and it just seems to be the center of our visitor's attention.

Last night I set up our old video camera on the kitchen table pointed at the basement door and set it to record before I went to sleep around 2am. This morning when my dad (the first one up for work) came downstairs, the camera and videotape were several feet apart from each other on the floor, and the black tape from inside the videotape was ripped out and strewn all over the kitchen. The chairs around the table had seemingly been thrown throughout the kitchen.

Now I'm worried things are going to get more violent.
