What is most important?

I just a had huge discussion with my parents about the choices I make etc. and the conclusion I have come to is that they want me to be strictly proper and good and what not, but I have found throughout high school and pretty much my entire life that this does not make me happy. So while they argue that I should not go party on New Years I argue that this will be one of the greatest times in my life and I do not want to miss this. So if I live my life the way I want and am happy, they pretty much will disapprove. If I do what they want, and basically get new friends I guess, then I cannot be happy. Who should make the sacrifice here?
