What does MFA think of these Timberland boots, and what might you suggest wearing them with?

I want to get a pair of casual brown boots (right now I've only got CDBs and converse) and I'm looking at these. I also like these ones but they're a little less eye-catching.

Anyway, I've never owned a pair of boots like this. Is it acceptable to wear the pants rolled up to show off the boots? Should I wear these with a particular cut/wash of jeans? Or should I wear them with chinos instead? Any other style advice about clothes that might look nice with this kind of boot would be great -- and photo examples would be even better. Thanks!
