Daughter.

Wrote this poem on a napkin at Christmas dinner, in about 5 minutes(there was a lot of fodder). It's from the viewpoint of my father to my sister... criticism welcome.

I support the illiterate, and idolize the vain, I'd rather live in regret, than admit I'm insane. Defeated and downtrodden, I hold ancient ideals, I look to my faith to know when to feel.

I would do the unthinkable, to uphold my beliefs, I would give my own life, I would give my family. You wouldn't understand, I've told you before, To live as an outcast, is what I strive for.

Deep down inside, I ask, when I'm not playing parts am I just a child, afraid of the dark? I could be like you, that's one thing I fear, I was raised this way and I hold these thoughts dear.

But recite it again, the thoughts of another I'm at peace again, I'm back with my brothers.

And all those years back, the adult that you knew, that loved unconditionally and watched as you grew. Don't tarnish those thoughts, I once was your father. But you don't think like me now, you're no longer my daughter.
