As someone entering the workforce, is this normal?

The feeling that you should not be awarded for the quality of work that you are doing. For instance, say you are going to school for engineering, and someone with a patent asks you to draft their patent on the computer for them. Say he is not asking for a technical drawing but only one to show how it works. Do you do the job as if it is going to be a hefty technical drawing or do you do a half assed job? Say the client is happy after you do the half assed job and you ask your client if he wants to change anything and he doesn't... should someone feel this feeling anyways?
