Anyone have ideas of cheap places in birmingham to stay for a month while doing research?

Hi r/Birmingham! I am going to be in your lovely city for most of January with a friend doing research on HB56 and we are trying to find places to stay. Does anyone have any idea of hostels, or cheap extended stay hotels or any other brilliant things we haven't thought of?

We are trying to keep cost as low as possible since we're poor students and all...

Edit: What's the public transportation sitch like in Birmingham? We are looking at renting a car if we have to but since we're both under 25 it's going to be rather expensive.
