How to confront about being distant.

So ive been seeing this girl, things have been bumpy, but its a complex situation.

Both of us recently out of long term relationships, we both dont want anything super serious, we used to hang out more, but things like school and the Holidays seem to have gotten in the way.

We are sleeping together occasionally, things seemed light and fun, but lately she has been distant.

We mainly communicate by text, when we dont see each other, for the last few weeks she hasnt been returning my texts for at least a few hours. I know shes busy with her kids and family in town for XMas, but it seems a little excessive. Cant even check your phone every few hours? Remember that guy you were sleeping with, care whats going on with him?

I know none of these things are good signs, but before I throw in the towel id like to at least talk to her about it. Im really bad at confrontation and wonder what would be the most gentle way to ask her about whats up?
